I’ve got a whole bunch of records that I listened to too quickly, then put away and more or less forgot about… Unfairly? That’s what we’re going to find out. As we randomly dive into the record collection, let’s give them a second chance…
Let’s start with EZTV and their debut album (2015), which caught my eye thanks to a little note stuck to the vinyl at one of the two best record stores in New Orleans (Euclid Records, the other being Domino Sound Record Shack). I can’t remember exactly what the little note said, but I’m pretty sure it mentioned some good indie pop. And sure enough, this Brooklyn trio draws on influences such as Emitt Rhodes (we’ll talk about him in the McCartney series), as well as bands like Big Star (big big love).
In short, it’s melodic, catchy, and the guitars have that jingle-jangle sound. As is often the case on these pages, we’ll appreciate the tracks that are a little more melancholic than the others. It’s all superbly executed. The second chance was well worth it!
