Wow, how did I come across this 2015 record? Hmm, probably in Uncut, with references to bands, preferably New Zealand ones and, at a stretch, Australian ones from the 80s, whose names at one point circulated as badges of authenticity and sincerity, far removed from the race for singles of the week in the NME that British bands were caught up in at the same time: The Clean, The Bats, The Chills, The Go-Betweens, The Verlaines… Okay, Australia had also produced its fair share of stadium-ready bands, mind you, like INXS and Midnight Oil… but then again, the mere mention of the city of Dunedin and the Flying Nun label is enough to catch the attention of any self-respecting fan of slightly ramshackle indie pop.
A second chance, then. And on a second listen, it’s absolutely delightful. Gently psychedelic, a little voice, guitars that occasionally get a bit noisy. Not much on the streaming platforms, certainly nothing on Instagram, so this is going to be another post without music… Fortunately, there is at least this beautiful single from the album Cosmic Radio Station, which can be found on YouTube.

The Clean, The Bats, The Chills, The Go-Betweens, The Verlaines…
