We were talking about people like Jackson Browne in the previous post about Alex Amen.

Now, this is the real deal: an entire era, an album that was added to the Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry in 2020 because it is culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.

Browne has sold some 30 million records in the US alone.

Now, honestly, it’s not exactly the most exciting music out there, with all due respect to him. He, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Joan Baez… this whole wave of ’70s singer-songwriters, often liberal activists, who influenced people like Cabrel and Sanson back home… it’s extremely well performed, brilliantly written, just a little too “adult” for my taste.

Anyway, this is Browne’s third album, with a great cover influenced by René (this is not a pipe) Magritte. And quite possibly the kind of songs that our young friend Alex Amen, circa 2026, listened to a lot (too much?).

A major classic, probably centered on his brief relationship with Joni Mitchell, and also covered by Joan Baez in another major classic of the era, Diamonds and Rust.

Alors, honnêtement, ce n’est pas la musique la plus excitante qui soit, avec tout le respect que je lui dois. Lui, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Joan Baez… toute cette vague de singer-songwriters des seventies, souvent militants libéraux, qui a influencé chez nous des gens comme Cabrel, Sanson… c’est extrêmement bien exécuté, brillamment écrit, un poil trop « adulte » quand même.

M’enfin, ici, 3e album de Browne, pochette top, influencée par René (ceci n’est pas une pipe) Magritte. Et sans doute le type de morceaux que notre jeune ami de 2026, Alex Amen, a beaucoup (trop ?) écoutés.
