So, Ultimate Painting is the duo formed by James Hoare of Proper Ornaments and Jack Cooper of Modern Nature. Strongly inspired by the Velvet on certain tracks (the Velvet of What Goes On or Foggy Notion), much closer in style to Proper Ornaments than to Modern Nature on others, they released three highly recommendable albums before recording a fourth, which went unpublished due to an argument that led to an apparently irreparable split.
