Curtain falls on The Band. The last surviving member, Garth Hudson (following Robertson‘s passing in 2023), has just died.

A multi-instrumentalist, Hudson was essential to the group’s distinctive sound. Here’s Up on Cripple Creek (1969), where his clavinet, paired with a wah-wah pedal, works wonders to infuse the track with a New Orleans Funk vibe. Stevie Wonder would take note of this a few years later for the phenomenal Superstition.
